"When it comes to relationships, Remy doesn't mess around. After all, she's learned all there is to know from her mother, who's currently working on husband number five. But there's something about Dexter that seems to defy all of Remy's rules. He certainly doesn't seem like Mr. Right. For some reason, however, Remy just can't seem to shake him. Could it be that Remy's starting to understand what those love songs are all about?" Synopsis from Goodreads

If you like dogs, romance,  burning hair and potato songs you've come to the right place. This Lullaby is a book you just can't help falling in love with. It's about learning to love and be loved, about going for things you want in your life but most of all it's about growing up and letting yourself experience the good and the bad.

I was helpless against this book from the very first page I connected with Remy even if I had mixed feelings about her. She like me never got the chance to meet her dad and I guess in a way it made us bond.  Dexter was patient and understanding always telling it like it is never holding back. I loved reading about Remy and her friend's crazy antics not to mention how funny Dexter and his pals were.

Remy of course is our heroine she's cynical when it comes to love and happily ever afters she hasn't seen a marriage last so its understandable . She's some what of a control freak I wasn't sure if I liked her or not but as the story progressed I warmed up to her. Remy and Dexter's first encounter is one I absolutely loved. He is every thing she hates, but he from the first moment tells her they are meant to be together. I loved his enthusiasm  the way he never falter with his words,  how from the first moment he knows what he wants and goes for it. To Remy he is disorganized,  impulsive, and worst of all a musician which she hates.

I wanted to place a photo of Dexter but I just can't find a guy who looked like the Dexter in my head.
So I decided untied shoelaces were the way to go after all Remy talks about how much it bugs her his are never tied lol.

I enjoyed the pace of the book not too slow not too fast. I particularly liked how the time span is over 4 months it made for a more believable story.  The obstacles Remy and Dexter's relationship have to face can't simply be overcome in days so that's why  I enjoyed the time span. They weren't the only ones to over come obstacles the supporting characters have a life of their own they must learn to live.

There's  Remy's close friends Chloe, Lissa, and Jess out of whom only Chloe I was skeptical about at least at the begging. At the same time there's Remy's mom and brother who have to learn to go for what they want in life and learn to grow up.  Dexter's friends Ringo and Lucas were pretty cool all except Ted who I instantly took a disliking to. There was also a dog named monkey who as Dexter pointed out "was part of the package deal." There was Don, who is the type of stepfather I'm glad I never had to deal with. Jennifer Anne was Chris's girlfriend and at first I really hated her but she like Remy grew on me.

I don't believe there was anything I didn't like about this book, yes there were times were Remy annoyed me, and i wished I could into the book and smack her a bit.  Times I wished things had been slightly different but  overall I wouldn't have changed things because there was always a reason things were done the way they were.

Potato song
Dexter's band's name is Truth Squad and they have an infamous Potato song so I though it would be fun to share a little bit about that song and I found (on google) a potato worthy of a potato song lol not a sweet potato but still it's heart shaped!!

" I stood there by the romaine lettuce, feeling my heart pine wishing that this meatless beauty still would be all mine. She turned around to go to checkout, fifteen items or less. And I knew this was the last go-round, so this is what I said... Don't you ever give me no rotten tomato, 'cause all I ever wanted was your sweet potato." pg 140

I've gushed about what I loved in This Lullaby so it should be no surprise my overall rating is:

I hope you enjoyed my review and if you haven't yet, pick up a copy of This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen you might just fall in love with a gangly, slightly messy, guy with curly black hair.
                             as always , Carol
